THEY ARE DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE ANIME COUPLE .. HA HA ! I' IN LOVE WITH THEM .. I LIKE THIS SERIES BECAUSE .. WE'LL - IT'S ABOUT VALUING YOUR FAMILY , EVEN FAMILIES THAT ARE NOT BOUNDED BY BLOOD - BUT THE TITLE ISN'T ABOUT THAT :)

Blood+, pronounced as "Blood Plus", is an anime series produced by Production I.G and Aniplex and directed by Junichi Fujisaku. The series premiered in Japan on Sony's anime satellite channel, Animax, as well as on terrestrialnetworks such as MBS, TBS, and RKB on October 8, 2005. The final episode aired on September 23, 2006. Blood+is licensed for international distribution in several regions through Sony Pictures' international arm, Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI).
Blood+ was inspired by the 2000 anime film Blood: The Last Vampire; however, there are only a few allusions and basic elements from the film. Fujisaku has been involved with both works, including acting as the director for Blood+and writing the novelization of Blood: The Last Vampire.

Story

Under the care of her adoptive family, Saya Otonashi has been living the life of an anemic amnesiac, but otherwise ordinary schoolgirl. However, her happy life is shattered when she is attacked by a Chiropteran, learning that she is the only one who can defeat them. Armed with her special katana, Saya embarks on a journey with her family, allies, and her chevalier Haji, to rid the world of the Chiropteran threat and recover her identity. The course of the journey reveals the background history of the Chiropterans and Saya's past, which extends into the mid-19th century.
The series is initially set in September 2005 Okinawa City (Koza), on Okinawa Island, near the US Kadena Air Base. Over the course of the series, Saya travels across the world, from Japan to Vietnam, Russia, France and finally the US, fighting Chiropterans.


Characters



Saya Otonashi, the central character, is a seemingly ordinary sixteen year old girl adopted and living with amnesia, who requires regular blood transfusions due to her being anemic. Her memories return when a mysterious man with a cello case appears and feeds her his blood when she is attacked by a large bat like creature known as a Chiropteran. Saya enters a state where her eyes become red, her lips become darker. She gains heightened strength and speed, allowing her to use a katana given to her by the man, and by adding her blood to the katana and then stabbing the Chiropteran, she is able to kill it due to the special nature of her blood, which crystallizes the Chiropteran's blood when they come in contact. She was born in 1833 in a research lab of Joel Goldsmith I, survived on the blood of others, and is destined to destroy Chiropterans and her twin sister Diva. Aiding her in her quest are her adopted brothers Kai and Riku and her ever-faithful chevalier Haji. She also is aided by David, her protector from the powerful organization Red Shield.

Haji is Saya's first and only living Chevalier. He started out as Saya's play partner and/or servant, but after suffering an accident where he falls from a cliff and nearly dies, until Saya remembers she has "special blood" and feeds her blood to him, transforming him into a Chevalier, a powerful chiropteran which serves the queen chiropteran. He does not need to eat or sleep and he follows Saya everywhere, protecting her and watching over her. He learned how to play the cello from Saya. There is also an implied love relationship even though in the anime it clearly states that there can be no reproduction from the union.

Kai Miyagusku is Saya's oldest adopted brother. Even though he does not have any real special abilities at first, he does everything to protect Saya and their little brother Riku. He seems to also have an implied love interest in Saya and he was offered to be Diva's Chevalier in order to be a reproductive mate for Saya.

Riku Miyagusku is Saya's younger adopted brother. He and Kai, even though abandoned several times, still follow their sister. In the process Riku mistakes Diva for Saya and Diva drains him of blood. In order to save him Saya makes him her Chevalier. However, this enables Diva to rape him to carry his children and then kill him. Because of him being Saya's Chevalier Diva becomes pregnant with Riku's babies, known as "queens".

Diva is Saya's younger twin. Joel used her as a test subject and a biological specimen in his research. She was locked away in a tower and provided with only the minimum amount of food, water, blood. Diva was completely isolated, and met no humans apart from Amshel, who used to take care of her. Diva also has her own helpers, starting with her five powerful chevaliers: Amshel, Solomon, Carl, James and Nathan. They also have their own human allies as part of the Cinq Flèches Group that they operate, including Van Argiano, who helps them develop the Delta 67 that the Cinq Flèches uses to create chiropterans.

Working against both sides are the Sif, a group of escaped artificial chiropteran created by Diva's group. The Sif attack both groups, believing that the blood of Saya, Diva, or one of their chevaliers will save them from a fatal and painful disease they call "the Thorn".
